Abstract
Purpose: The goal of this study was to assess accuracy of the new standard criteria as compared with the present standard criteria, in evaluating the quality of mammographic images.

Materials and Methods: A total of 72 mammograms were examined following subjective assessment (pass or fail), the new standard criteria with strict guideline, and the present standard criteria for clinical image evaluation, by 7 expert radiologists. The guideline of mammograms for pass is 60 points out of total 100 points.

Results: 18 mammograms (25%) failed in the evaluation following subjective assessment. The average 5.8 mammograms (8.0%) failed in the evaluation following present standard criteria. The average 19.3 mammograms (26.3%) failed in the evaluation following new standard criteria. Sensitivity about failure in the evaluation following new standard criteria (73.8%) is higher than that in evaluation following present standard criteria (27.8%). Specificity about pass in the evaluation following the new standard criteria (87.3%) is lower than that in evaluation following the present standard criteria (98.7%).

Conclusion: The new standard criteria is more accurate and useful in evaluating the quality of mammographic images, as compared with present standard criteria.
